New Art and Design Faculty - Elizabeth Folk
The Art and Design Department would like to introduce a new faculty addition in the studio art concentration with a specialty in sculpture: Elizabeth Folk.
Folk, who started her tenure-line appointment in September 2017, earned a Master of Fine Arts from the University of California, Santa Barbara in spatial studies with a concentration in sculpture, installation, and performance art, and a Bachelor of Fine Arts in studio art from the University of Colorado, Boulder.
Folk’s creative practice is situated in interdisciplinary sculpture and time-based media with empathy and social justice as points of departure. She has exhibited and presented nationally in venues such as the Denver Art Museum and the Torrance Art Museum.
She has also been the recipient of several grants and fellowships, including the Visual, Performing, and Media Arts Award from the Interdisciplinary Humanities Center at UCSB.
Before arriving at Cal Poly, Folk taught sculpture, time-based media and visual literacy at UCSB, Santa Barbara City College and Allan Hancock College. Folk is enthusiastically committed to diversity and equality in all areas of campus life, and to making her classroom an inclusive environment for all students.
