What is the Art & Design’s Special Problems Course?

ART 2200 or ART 4400 Special Problems (previously ART 200/400) are independent study courses that a student can take to conduct individual investigation, research, studies or surveys of selected problems in conjunction with a written agreement between an Art & Design faculty member and the student. Students will be required to register/enroll and pay fees for the Special Problem course during the quarter that the independent study takes place.

What is the difference between ART 2200 and ART 4400?

• ART 2200: Equivalent to 1-2 units of a lower division Art Elective course. Total credit limited to 4 units, with a maximum of 2 units per quarter.
• ART 4400: Equivalent to 1-2 units of an upper division Art Elective course. Total credit limited to 4 units, with a maximum of 2 units per quarter.

How to apply and register for Art & Design's Special Problems course:

Students need to seek faculty approval prior to completing this form. Once approval is received from a faculty member the student will initiate the contract, which will be completed via AdobeSign and signed by the faculty member. Upon receipt of the completed document by the office, the student will be emailed a permission code to enroll in the course.

Students are required to register/enroll and pay fees for the Special Problem course during the quarter that the independent study takes place.
