Yun-chen Lu

Yun-chen Lu is a lecturer in the Art and Design department at Cal Poly. She is a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of History of Art and Architecture at the University of California, Santa Barbara, where she specializes in Chinese art history. Her dissertation, “A Left-Turn to Artistic Eccentricity: Gao Fenghan (1683–1749) and Disability Art in Eighteenth-century Yangzhou,” investigates the relationship between the trend of artistic eccentricity and artists with disabilities and explores the development of disability art and aesthetics in Qing China. Her other research interests include art exchanges between Qing China, Edo Japan, and Joseon Korea. For the academic year 2021-22, Yun-chen is a Smithsonian Institution Predoctoral Fellow at the Freer Gallery of Art and Arthur M. Sackler Gallery.
