GRAND OPENING
Fri 10am- 12pm or by appointment
Beginning May 9th until the end of Spring Quarter

GRAND OPENING
We’re very excited to announce our Open Hours and the public opening of Cal Poly’s RI-SLO Studio and Zine Library!

WHAT IS THE RI-SLO STUDIO?
The RI-SLO Studio and Zine Library is a public facing and student-led Risograph-based makerspace that will provide students affordable access to space, tools, and resources for creating independently published print-based media and artwork, and to build community and identity through the creation of written and visual art with a specialized printing process based on a unique printer—the Risograph MF9450.

WHAT ARE OPEN HOURS?
Student users can use the space will learn how to operate the risograph, prepare print-ready files, and create artworks and publications with the support of our RISOfellow , Becca Bledstein!

WHAT EVEN IS A RISOGRAPH?

The Risograph MF95450 is described as a “digital screen printer” or “digital letterpress.” The printer uses a stencil wrapped around a color drum to print one color at a time, enabling makers to print vivid spot colors (premixed colors that other printers can’t produce) and specific textures, resulting in a handmade aesthetic embraced by small publishers. The Risograph printer provides a cheap, easy, fun and unique method for creating beautiful art prints, posters, zines, cards, buttons, packaging and more. RISO printing is hands-on and experimental, yields super textures, extra vivid colors, transparent inks and overlays, and is also fast, affordable and environmentally friendly.

APPOINTMENTS
To schedule a time to print outside of Open Hours, please email Assistant Professor Travis Neel at tmneel@calpoly.edu

Passage by Christopher Chen

May 8th - 11th and 15th - 17th

A fantasia inspired by E.M. Forster’s A Passage to India, PASSAGE is set in the fictional Country X, which is a neocolonial client of Country Y. B, a local doctor, and F, an expat teacher, begin to forge a friendship that is challenged after a fateful trip to a local attraction. A meditation on how power imbalances affect personal and interpersonal dynamics across a spectrum of situations, the play allows a director wide latitude in casting the roles by race, ethnicity, and gender, with different casting choices highlighting different societal structures.
