Student Advising
Advising Appointments will continue taking place through fall quarter for all BFA students. Appointments with Major Advisor, Sara Frantz, can be made via Bookings.
Additionally, our Dept. Chair’s office hours are Mondays: 11am -12pm and Thursdays: 12 -1pm. Make an office hours appointment with Sara via Bookings. Drop-In appointments are also welcome. Email artdesign@calpoly.edu if you have any questions.

The Makers Market is where creativity meets craftsmanship! Explore an electric array of handcrafted one-of-a-kind creations, from jewelry, ceramics, clothing, and much more!
The mission of the ASI Makers Market is to promote the Craft Center and to provide a location for talented artists to sell their work. All unique goods are made by local vendors in a variety of mediums.
The Fall Makers Market will be Nov. 17–19, 2025, from 10 a.m.–4 p.m. in Chumash Auditorium (Building 65).
Morro Bay Dragon Boat Festival Tomorrow
Morro Bay Dragon Boat Festival is happening this month on the 15th! Come join us for a day of racing and on-land events starting at 9am to 3pm. We’ll have a mix of events including the Lion Dancing team, as well as a potluck. Feel free to show up anytime and support our local Dragonboat team!

"A Christmas Story" Returns to SLO Rep
The heartwarming holiday production will run from November 21st to December 21st, 2025
Based on the iconic 1983 film and Jean Shepherd's semi-autobiographical stories, "A Christmas Story" transports theatergoers to 1940s Indiana, where young Ralphie Parker dreams of receiving a Red Ryder BB gun for Christmas. Narrated by the adult Ralphie, the play follows his hilarious and touching escapades as he navigates school bullies, a quirky family, and the overwhelming desire for the perfect Christmas gift.

Pieces of Us: An Intimate Archive
November 20th from 6-8:30pm at the Gala Pride & Diversity Center
Please join us for our Transgender Day of Remembrance community gathering at the Pride and Diversity Center on Thursday, November 20th from 6-8:30pm. Tranz Central Coast is hosting an interactive art exhibit, Pieces of Us: An Intimate Archive celebrates and memorializes transgender and gender diverse individuals in our community through cherished objects and identity-charged artwork. Visitors are encouraged to bring objects that reflect on the trans* experience of their friends, chosen family, or in their own life. Objects will be arranged and on view at GALA through December.
We will hear from members of the community, share food and drinks, and honor and celebrate those we love and those we've lost.

Announcements are sent to members of the Art and Design Department each week while classes are in session. To submit an event or news item, please email information to Paula Rygg (prygg@calpoly.edu), by Friday at 8:00 am. Include title, date and time, participation information (Zoom link, registration, ticketing, fee, etc.), and a brief description. Small – email sized images may be included. Weekly announcements are approved by the chair before they are distributed.
