.RAW Crowdfunding Campaign

.RAW magazine began as a class project nearly a decade ago. It has become an essential platform—run entirely by Art + Design students—to publish work, share ideas, and build inter-media community.

Four times a year, a .RAW issue is designed, written, and produced by Cal Poly Art + Design students, and every copy is distributed free to readers at release parties. We feel it is essential to keep it that way. However, printing costs are rising, and as we print + assemble our 10-year anniversary art book, we’re asking for your support.

We just launched a crowdfunding campaign because we need your help to keep .RAW alive and free for Cal Poly Art + Design students!

Your contribution, or simply sharing the campaign with friends, family, or alumni, directly supports:

  • Printing quarterly and annual issues
  • Purchasing materials for bookbinding and design
  • Funding student-led photo and video projects
  • Hosting launch and fundraising events
  • Promoting .RAW on campus and online
  • Preserving an essential Art + Design resource!

Even if you can't donate, sharing our fundraiser with parents, alumni, and local donors will help us continue platforming and publishing your work!

Cal Poly Crowdfunding Campaign - Now Live!https://crowdfund.calpoly.edu/project/48479

If .RAW has ever featured your work, inspired you, or made you proud to be part of this department, now’s the time to give back. Help us keep .RAW free and in print.

Kerri Conlon's Permission Structures

On View: November 5th – December 5th

The University Art Gallery is excited to announce the opening of Kerri Conlon’s “Permission Structures,” running from 11/05/25 – 12/05/25.

On Wednesday 11/05 there will be an opening in the Gallery, found in Dexter 34, from 5-7pm.  The artist will be present and will give a walkthrough of their work at 5:15pm. Light refreshments will be served.

Kerri Conlon is an artist and educator living and working in San Francisco, CA. She received her MFA in Sculpture from the Yale School of Art in 2019 and her BFA in Sculpture from the Rhode Island School of Design in 2009. Her practice explores the intersections of construction—both architectural and cultural—investigating how identity and space are shaped by structures that are at once physical and ideological.

Working with craft and architectural materials, Conlon creates large-scale sculptural installations that fuse the ornamental with the structural. Her work uses tactile processes to examine how we inhabit, uphold, and challenge the frameworks that shape our lives—whether built, inherited, or imagined.

The Department of Art two-year MFA program provides graduate students with the opportunity to explore studio production, field studies, and theoretical work in a flexible structure that encourages individual development within a multi and interdisciplinary context. The department equally stresses the importance of making along with an understanding of the conditions in which art is produced. Students are exposed to methodologies of inquiry that foster innovation and the problem-solving skills necessary for artistic development and creative production.

Students are given the opportunity to work one-on-one with our accomplished faculty who are actively engaged in a range of disciplines and areas that include art and cultural theory, video, digital media, print media, photography, performative studies, painting, spatial and public arts, and related fields in the Humanities, Sciences and Engineering including film, art history, and media arts & technology. The program provides graduate students with an intensive curriculum which includes seminars in studio, critique, theory, post-graduate concerns, a range of directed media research courses, and the department’s visiting artist lecture colloquium. Student's final thesis work culminates in a written thesis document and an exhibition at the university's Art, Design & Architecture Museum.

Our unique program offers direct exposure to visiting artists and scholars as well as post-grad positions on a competitive basis that may include teaching, a studio, and access to department facilities. The department wishes to attract motivated students who will benefit from interaction with a diverse and challenging faculty and peers. The environment offers focused research in a compelling natural setting while gaining exposure to the opportunities presented in nearby Los Angeles. Admitted students receive full tuition and fee remission, and additional financial support through campus and departmental fellowships, stipends, and/or teaching assistantships, with additional funding opportunities available.

Application deadline: January 5, 2026
