Student Accomplishments

Over the past year our students have been very successful both on- and off-campus. Here are some highlights of our students’ awards and ventures. 

Students Receive CLA Honors

Three of our students took home awards at the college level and were recognized in a ceremony hosted by the dean of the College of Liberal Arts in June 2018:

  • Noelle Merrihew won the Cal Poly Arts Award for Service in the Arts
  • Thomas Stoeckinger won the Cal Poly Arts Award for Excellence in Original Work
  • Anna Teiche represented the department as the College of Liberal Arts Outstanding Senior

Two Teams Placed at Packaging Challenge 

Our students also won two top awards in the 2018 Ameristar contest hosted by the Institute of Packaging Professionals. Cal Poly earned second and third place with the package design projects of graphic design students Deric Shindledecker and Trey Cahalan. Working with Professor Mary LaPorte, graphic design concentration students collaborated with fellow students from industrial technology and packaging. These awards are a real credit to their creativity, hard work and dedication.
