Faculty, Student, and Alumni News
Diana Puntar will be an artist-in-residence in Galveston, Texas, through July 2016.
The department is happy to congratulate Diana Puntar, assistant professor of sculpture in the studio art concentration, who was awarded an artist residency at the Galveston Artist Residency in Texas, from September 2015 through July 2016. In addition, Elizabeth Adan, associate professor of Art History, and Charmaine Martinez, associate professor in Graphic Design, were awarded 2015 Summer Research Stipends from the College of Liberal Arts at Cal Poly.
After 30 years at Cal Poly, Mary LaPorte, professor in Graphic Design, retired in 2015. She will continue to teach on a part-time basis, and the department will benefit from her expertise.
Two of our 2015 graduates were recognized with prestigious awards at the college and university levels: Lauren Manning (studio art concentration) was the recipient of Cal Poly Arts Award for Excellence in Original Work; and Albert Chang (graphic design concentration) received the College of Liberal Arts Outstanding Senior Award for Art and Design.
We had strong alumni participation for our portfolio review sessions last May, with the students benefiting greatly from professional support and advice. We continue to work closely with the College of Liberal Arts advancement staff to boost our alumni relations, enhance our program and better connect graduates with one another. Some of our alumni have already kindly expressed their enthusiasm for such initiatives. If you are interested in helping, please contact Art and Design chair Giancarlo Fiorenza or CLA Assistant Dean for Advancement David Cohune. In any event, we want to hear from you — give us a quick update on where you are and what you are doing.
