University Art Gallery: New Directions
The department is pleased to announce that Garet Zook recently began his full-time position as the new Gallery Specialist for the University Art Gallery. A Cal Poly alum (BFA, Art and Design, 2006), he earned his MFA in sculpture from Massachusetts College of Art and Design in Boston in 2011. He has been teaching part-time at Cal Poly since 2014 and will continue to do so periodically while managing the gallery. Garet looks forward to fostering an ongoing dialogue between students and the artists hosted by the gallery.
Garet’s position also has a new and exciting role as a liaison for interdisciplinary collaboration between Art and Design and the College of Architecture and Environmental Design (CAED) at Cal Poly. These kinds of opportunities help students become diverse thinkers and versatile artists as well as highlighting the artistic and design associations between the two programs. One of the first collaborative projects will be to display student work in conjunction with the National Conference on the Beginning Design Student, hosted by CAED in February 2016.
