Thomas DePasquale's Translations Published in Paradigms of Renaissance Grotesques

Thomas DePasquale's translations of a series of letters on painting written by the sixteenth-century Italian scientist Ulisse Aldrovandi were published in Paradigms of Renaissance Grotesques

Last fall, in conjunction with The Renaissance Nude, a recent exhibition at the J.P. Getty Museum in Los Angeles, DePasquale’s 2018 essay, “Michelangelo’s Last Judgment and the Reception of the Nude in Counter-Reformation Italy” was published in a volume of studies. DePasquale also helped organize the Getty exhibition.

Nick Bockelman helps create the New City of SLO Branding Campaign

Nick Bockelman participated in a new branding campaign for the City of San Luis Obispo, highlighting their dedication to sustainability, smart growth, and environmental stewardship. The modular pictogram is a collection of different detailed icons that represent the city’s special initiatives relating to Open Space, Renewable Energy, Smart Growth, and Regional Water Systems.  

Jessica Bellamy, Designer and Social Justice Advocate, Will Visit Cal Poly Nov. 6–8

 The Department of Art and Design's University Art Gallery will present Movement Science / Creative Impact, an exhibition of Jessica Bellamy’s design work, opening on November 7, 2019. The exhibit will begin with a lecture by Bellamy at 5:00pm in Alan A. Erhart Agriculture, building 10, room 231. An opening reception will immediately follow the lecture. Jessica Bellamy will also be facilitating a hands-on design workshop for Art and Design students on Friday, November 8 from 10am until 3pm in Dexter, building 34, room 150.

On October 11 –12, The Department of Art and Design hosted the CSU + Adobe XD Creative Jam, in which seven CSU schools will compete in a fast-paced tournament to complete an interaction design challenge in just two hours. Students were asked to address the CSU's Basic Needs Initiative in their work, which included: identifying an area of insecurity and then conceiving, designing,and building a mobile app experience that enables action within and/or outside of the educational system to stabilize and encourage student success.

Laura Krifka’s Solo Show Reviewed in The Los Angeles Times

Laura Krifka exhibited her work in a solo show entitled “The Game of Patience” at Luis De Jesus Gallery, Los Angeles in September 2019. The show was reviewed in ten publications including both the online and print edition of The Los Angeles Times.

 “Laura Krifka is a superlative, if shifty, storyteller — a cross between a delectably unreliable narrator and a canny ventriloquist. Her intriguing recent oils on canvas and panel at the Los Angeles gallery Luis De Jesus Los Angeles are painted with brushless exactitude, their crisp and controlled surfaces belying personal and interpersonal complexities beneath. Krifka tells it super-straight, but the “it” is slant.” - Leah Ollman, Los Angeles Times. Cal Poly Graphic Design Students win First Place in Adobe XD Competition

On Friday September 27, 315 college students came together to compete at the IBM iX + Adobe Drop-In Creative Jam with Adobe XD. During the kick off, Billy Seabrook, Global Chief Creative Officer of IBM iX, presented the students with a design challenge around climate change. During the weekend-long Jam, 191 students designed and submitted team 52 prototypes. After an Sunday evening judging round by IBM iX, and agency designers, only 11 teams made it to the final round.

Art and Design student hired by Coachella

Current Art and Design Photography/Video concentration student Everett Fitzpatrick has been working as freelance creative producer while attending Cal Poly. Working alongside an art director, he has conceptualized and executed creative content for music festivals. Last year he worked for music festival Camp Flog Gnaw as part of a team of content producers. This year he was hired by Coachella as one of two creative producers for the festival and. His team of photographers, videographers and editors curate the images and push out content to various press, marketing and social media in real time.

From April to November of 2019, Enrica L Costello will present her work at the American Society of Engineering Education in Los Angeles, as well as MIX2019 Experiential Storytelling at Bath Spa University, Corsham, U.K., the IEEE Conference on Games, London UK, Foundation in Digital Games 2019, San Luis Obispo and The Society for Literature, Science & the Arts (SLSA) 2019 Conference, UC Irvine.
