Bio:

Odunze is a comic/manga artist, storyboard artist, character designer and a writer, originally from Nigeria, now living and working from Texas. He is the author and illustrator of Apple Black comic and Co-Founder of Saturday-AM, home of the most diverse Shonen manga anthology since 2013.  He tackles social and political issues such as diversity representation, access, and equality through revolutionizing the light-hearted, high-action tradition of the Shonen manga style. Oguguo was formally recognized by SYFY Wire’s Indie Comic Creator spotlight, NEO UK, Apple’s Mac Directory Magazine. Most recently, he was selected as a participant by Facebook “We the Culture” program for black creators striving in their respective fields. Being one of only two successful, independent Black-owned manga companies here in the U.S. He has garnered a popular following online under the name "Whyt Manga" on most popular social media platforms like Instagram, Youtube, Twitter, Facebook, and more.

Oguguo holds an MFA in Visual Communications from the University of Texas at Arlington. He teaches ART 4392-005 Manga Art at the University of Texas at Arlington, which focuses on digital comic/manga creation. He emphasizes both comics creation and studies as a broadly interdisciplinary area, often applying the scholarly literature of literary studies, communication and mass media, art, and sociology.
