Welcome to the Department of Art & Design!

We offer a Bachelor of Fine Art (BFA) with concentrations in Studio Art, Photography & Video, and Graphic design. 

The department also provides students from other disciplines the option of minoring in art history, studio art, or photography & video, as well as a variety of highly popular General Education courses focusing on the arts that support the university’s learning objectives. 

Whether it is the design and creation of a painting, sculpture, drawing, photograph, typography, computer-generated imaging, or the critical analysis of a great work of art, our curriculum sparks the imagination and provides lifelong support as students move on to engage in art and design opportunities world-wide. 

Our diverse faculty includes prestigious artists, researchers, and educators who produce, exhibit, and publish their work on a regular basis.  They are recognized nationally and internationally for excellence in their fields and many have received Distinguished Teaching Awards.  Together we have developed curriculum that fosters critical thinking and collaborative learning experiences. Our alumni regularly go on to win awards, receive graduate degrees, and work for major industries.

The College of Liberal Arts emphasizes the importance of the study of human experience and expression within a polytechnic learning environment, and to that end, the Art & Design Department facilitates collaboration while nurturing the individual student’s imagination. Class size is small, affording considerable one-on-one interaction.  A look at the curriculum reveals that all Art & Design students take a variety of classes in studio art, photography & video, graphic design, and art history.  This common foundation, together with the university’s well-rounded General Education requirements, thoroughly prepares our students for study in their selected discipline.

Our department hosts the University Art Gallery and offers a Visual Resource Center and an Art & Design Resource Center. It also offers a number of art specific clubs for students to engage with. El departamento también ofrece a los estudiantes de otras disciplinas la opción de especializarse en historia del arte, arte de estudio o fotografía y video, así como una variedad de cursos de educación general muy populares que se centran en las artes y que respaldan los objetivos de aprendizaje de la universidad.

Ya sea el diseño y la creación de una pintura, escultura, dibujo, fotografía, tipografía, imágenes generadas por computadora o el análisis crítico de una gran obra de arte, nuestro plan de estudios despierta la imaginación y brinda apoyo de por vida a medida que los estudiantes avanzan hacia la participación. en oportunidades de arte y diseño en todo el mundo.

Nuestro diverso cuerpo docente incluye prestigiosos artistas, investigadores y educadores que producen, exhiben y publican su trabajo de forma regular. Son reconocidos a nivel nacional e internacional por su excelencia en sus campos y muchos han recibido Premios a la Enseñanza Distinguida. Juntos hemos desarrollado un plan de estudios que fomenta el pensamiento crítico y las experiencias de aprendizaje colaborativo. Nuestros alumnos ganan premios con regularidad, reciben títulos de posgrado y trabajan para las principales industrias.

La Facultad de Artes Liberales enfatiza la importancia del estudio de la experiencia y expresión humana dentro de un entorno de aprendizaje politécnico y, con ese fin, el Departamento de Arte y Diseño facilita la colaboración mientras alimenta la imaginación del estudiante individual. El tamaño de la clase es pequeño, lo que permite una interacción individual considerable. Una mirada al plan de estudios revela que todos los estudiantes de Arte y Diseño toman una variedad de clases de arte de estudio, fotografía y video, diseño gráfico e historia del arte. Esta base común, junto con los requisitos completos de educación general de la universidad, prepara a fondo a nuestros estudiantes para estudiar en la disciplina seleccionada.

Nuestro departamento alberga la Galería de Arte de la Universidad y ofrece un Centro de Recursos Visuales y un Centro de Recursos de Arte y Diseño.
